Meet the Mazda 2.5 Turbo Family

Since its debut in the 2016 Mazda CX-9, Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine now spans across most of the 2021 Mazda lineup (excluding the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda CX-3), including the 2021 Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-30, Mazda3 and Mazda6. The turbocharged engine produces up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, no matter which model you choose. Mazda designed the SKYACTIV-G Turbo engine to focus on higher torque rather than pumping up horsepower since torque is what provides more responsiveness and improves fuel economy. Meaning you will actually get the manufacturer-stated MPG in the real world.

To get the full power of the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo engine, you will need to use high octane fuel. However, using regular gasoline only knocks the numbers down to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Unless you are regularly street racing, you probably won’t notice a difference. You’ll still enjoy quick acceleration, responsive handling and a more fun daily commute.

In the 2021 Mazda CX-9, the Turbo engine comes on all trim levels with a choice of FWD or i-ACTIV AWD® with Off-Road Traction Assist, with AWD coming standard on the Mazda CX-9 Signature trim. The three-row SUV is so peppy and light on its feet, you may even feel like you are driving a two-row SUV! Since the Turbo engine comes on all Mazda CX-9 models, you can choose your trim based on the convenience and safety features that suit your driving needs while still enjoying all the power and acceleration of the Mazda 2.5 Turbo engine.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 applies the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo to the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims, as well as the 2021 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo. i-ACTIV AWD® comes standard on the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature but is optional on the Carbon Edition Turbo. The Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo is one of the quickest gas-powered compact SUVs on the market thanks to the high torque of the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo engine. Its size, upscale cabin, and aerodynamic design help the Mazda CX-5 stand out from the crowded crossover market, not to mention being such a joy to drive.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is already an ultra popular crossover, thanks to its car-like ride hidden in an SUV size. Built on the same platform as the Mazda3, the Mazda CX-30 adds height, cargo space, and Off-Road Traction Assist to the i-ACTIV AWD® that comes with the 2.5 Turbo engine. This off-road stability control distributes the torque across all four wheels more evenly to help you better travel over slippery roads. The Mazda i-ACTIV 2.5 Turbo engine is equipped on the 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Premium and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus, all trims come with AWD standard.

The 2021 Mazda6 has the 2.5 Turbo engine on its top-level trims: the Mazda6 Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature. There is a Carbon Edition but no Carbon Edition Turbo for the new Mazda6. Each model is built with front-wheel-drive; there is no AWD option currently. The Mazda6 sedan is a great option for those who want a comfortable, spacious sedan but also want to feel something while driving. Its smooth handling, responsive steering and quick acceleration help the new Mazda6 remain an exceptional option for everyday driving you can enjoy.

The 2021 Mazda3 sedan or hatchback can be had with the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo engine in the 2.5 Turbo or 2.5 Turbo Premium trims. Both the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback come with standard i-ACTIV AWD® with the Turbo engine. As the smallest Mazda Turbo option, the new Mazda3 offers a lively and exciting drive experience. With all that torque packed into its small package, you’ll experience the power of the Mazda 2.5 Turbo up close and personal. On a less refined model, the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo might be loud and stiff, but with Mazda’s expert engineering, a drive in the Mazda3 feels thrilling yet grown up thanks to the smooth six-speed transmission.

Since most of the Mazda Turbo options are on the higher trims, you can expect premium features*, including:

  • Heated seats
  • Leather-trim
  • Active Driving Display
  • Moonroof (select models)
  • Rear power liftgate
  • Bose® audio system
  • Paddle shifters
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Power driver’s seat
  • LED lights

All 2021 Mazdas come with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity and Mazda’s i-Activsense suite of safety features which includes: Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Driver Attention Alert, Adaptive Front Lighting System, High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and more.
